Polysistec participes in INSECTUM proyect

The demand for food worldwide, especially from sources of animal protein, has been increased by population growth and urbanization. In addition, the traditional production of animal feed such us fishmeal, soybeans and cereals, requires a large increase in terms of resource efficiency and expansion through the use of alternative sources. In this way, in 2030, it will be necessary to supply food more than 9,000 million people, as well as the billions of animals which are bred with food purposes every year.

In this context, INSECTUM consortium has been set up with the main objective of researching technologies for the breeding of insects from by-products and bio-waste, in addition to develop, from insect biomass, substances and innovative products with high added value which can be used in different sectors. The consortium is formed by 6 partners: Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, Tradichem, Bioento, Fertinagro, Dibaq and Polysistec.

The Polysistec role in INSECTUM project is to increase the value of insect biomass for obtaining biodegradable substances which can be used in textile industry. In addition to establish the optimal value chains according to type of waste and species of insect.

The INSECTUM project is financed by the “Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial” (CDTI), within the framework of CIEN program 2018 (Consorcios de Investigación Empresarial Nacional).
